“Bed bug found in state health building…” – The Lexington Herald-Leader, 3 November 2014. State officials confirmed that a bed bug was discovered in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services state building, but insisted that the office did not have a bed bug infestation. A spokeswoman for the cabinet stated that one floor of the building was treated. She went on to rebut a claim that employees had been threatened with disciplinary action if they publicly discussed the incident.

“Bed bugs found at New Albany High School” – WDRB News, 12 November 2013. According to officials associated with New Albany-Floyd County Schools, two separate incidents occurred in which bed bugs were brought to the attention of staff at New Albany High School. The district representatives stated that they have a bed bug inspection and investigation process already in place, and that the process was completed.

“Bed bugs found in two Meade County schools” – WDRB News, 26 October 2012. Meade County High School and Stuart Pepper Middle School sent home notes with students stating that bed bugs had been discovered on the campuses. In the case of the high school, bed bugs were found on the clothing of a student, in their personal possessions, and in a classroom. Details were not provided about the incident at Stuart Pepper. Officials for the school district stated that the schools did not have a bed bug infestation, but rather that the bed bugs had been linked to the family of a student.

“Woman trying to kill bedbugs burns down apartment” – WLKY Louisville, 30 June 2012. An apartment complex in Carlisle suffered serious damage due to an amateur attempt at treating a bed bug infestation. A woman in one of the apartments was attempting to kill bed bugs on her couch with alcohol, when she dropped a cigarette on the couch and set it on fire. 30 residents of the complex were left homeless, and four were treated injuries related to smoke inhalation.

“Bed bugs found in more than half of northern Ky. hotels” – WKYT, 18 May 2012. In a report released by the Northern Kentucky Health Department, records showed that 34 out of 64 hotels in northern Kentucky had received at least one complaint of bed bugs in the past two years. The report noted that the affected hotels reacted in a variety of ways–some immediately quarantined rooms and had them cleaned, while others received multiple reports of bed bugs before acting on the information.
